The advantages of wall heating
An efficient and aesthetic way to obtain the desired thermal comfort for your house is the one based on through the wall heating. It is true that this type of heating has a great disadvantage: the system is a bit more expensive than the radiators or the conventional stoves.
The main advantage of this heating way is the uniform distribution of room temperature, thus a homogeneous temperature profile between the floor and the ceiling through the comfortable radiant heat in the wall.
To increase the heating surface, especially for rooms with a very large surface, it is indicated to combine the wall and floor heating.
Alternative sources of energy such as solar heat, heat pumps, earth collectors, etc. can be used for this type of conditioning.
Very useful is the quick adjustment by short heating phases for the wall plaster, respectively the systems with climatic elements which have a lower weight compared to the amount of floor screed.
The electrical under floor heating systems based on electric cables or electric nets can also be applied to the wall, thereby making the so-called “warm walls”.
The principle is somewhat similar to floor installing, varying the thickness and the composition of the applied layers.
In the case of wall heating based on pipes, the installation is made according to the type of material from which the building is built.
If the insulating plate is used, first is installed a foundation plate with an integrated pipe fastening rail and a dry primer. In the case of massive walls, it is grasped by dowels, and in the wooden constructions with square washers. To the fixing rail it is attached a pipe that starts from the heating system distributor and reaches to the grooves provided in the project.
For fixing the return on the foundation plate are provided holding back flanges. The corresponding surface to the wall-mounted installation is plastered with the ecological heating plaster, which has the role of (raw) primer on the plaster. In the final layer of plaster (fine) – the cement lime plaster is recommended.
In case that the walls do not have the insulating plate it is proceeded in the same way, but in the foundation plate is fixed only the foundation slab on the corresponding wall.
Installing with the insulation board is recommended especially for massive buildings, made of high bricks, with vertical holes and without external thermal insulation. In this case, the foundation plate performs a thermal insulation between masonry (accumulation mass) and ecological plaster (good heat conductor).
With the foundation plate the heat is led first into the room, and after the uniform heating of the plaster is used the accumulation mass of caramel. A complete interior thermo-insulation would lead to loss of accumulation mass and decreasing the temperature in certain areas of the building.
In the case of buildings with a load-bearing wooden structure and filled with masonry (house made of prefabricated elements or attics), the foundation plate is an ideal base for the plaster and is also the mounting plate for the wall heating system. It can be used instead of plasterboards or gypsum fibre boards, and installed on them. Using this method, the heating system can also be installed in the roof slopes (in the attic).
The heating system installed without the insulating board is indicated when the exterior wall already has a very low K value or when using a plaster thermo-insulation (plates for light constructions of shavings, cork, ytong, etc.) has already been made on the inner side of the outer wall.).
In case of this installation type, some rules must be followed. In the case of internal insulating boards, such as the cork, a bonding glue (a glue) for the plaster must be applied prior to the installation of the pipe fastening rail and before the pipe installation.
In the case of thermo-insulations of boards for light constructions, shavings, or in the case of solid walls, after the installing of the fixing rail and of the pipe, add a cement primer layer for the adhesion of the plaster. For the effective fixing of the plaster, this primer coat must be perfectly dry.
Such a way of heating through the wall is indicated when you build a new house. For maximum efficiency, it is good for the system to be included in the initial house project.
