What you have to know about the floor tiles

An important stage in the design of the bathroom is the floor finishing. Flooring tile plating is an advantageous option because of the qualities it has: the durability, easy maintenance, adaptation to any decorative style.

Due to the increasing diversity in terms of the color and design, the ceramic tiles offer countless possibilities for mixing and matching. What makes the flooring tiles more useable than other finishes is the high resistance to the moisture and the price, sometimes they are very affordable.

If it is  the time for the flooring tiles from your house to be replaced or you want to use it for the first time, it is recommended to take into consideration a number of aspects that are essential for getting some quality finishes. Of course, just the right choice of tiles is not enough to get the desired finishes because  factors such as the right choice of complementary materials and the quality of the work ( the workmanship) can appear.

Buying the flooring tiles involves a number of aspects that are almost exclusively based on our taste and preferences. These are: the design, the color, the size, the decorative elements.

The appearance is closely related to the design style. It is recommended that the flooring tile to be in harmony with the adopted style (classic, rustic, modern), compatible with the wall painting and the furniture type.

The two-color flooring tile in asymmetrical arrangements are lively and they drive away the monotony. The strong colors are recommended for modern, daring, active houses. The black / white combination is used for sober and serious decorations. The flower patterns and cheerful colors are indicated to young families, to children’s bathrooms or to non-conformist people. The neutral colors are best suited for the situations where the furniture or decor changes more often, which helps to avoid creating contrasts between the flooring tiles and the rest of the arrangement.

In order to obtain a durable and quality planking, it is necessary that the flooring tile meets several essential characteristics, as follows: the resistance to water absorption, mechanical resistance (on impacts and weights), resistance to chemical agents. All these features can be found on the packaging of the products or by asking the sales consultant directly.

Also on the product packaging should be mentioned the size, thickness, aspects that will help you in calculating the required quantity of flooring tiles.

The tiles quality

It is given by the standard size of the model and the quality of the glaze (the front of the tile). The defects of any kind reduce the quality of the tiles (inappropriate size, inconsistent color, glaze debris or small graphic changes).

Three levels of quality have been established, with the following considerations:

– The first quality guarantees the size, color and the appearance.

– The second quality guarantees the size and appearance.

– The third quality assumes the choice only according to the appearance.

The wear resistance

Particularly important in choosing the flooring tiles is their wear resistance (PEI). There are five categories of wear:

– PEI 1: They are recommended for the rooms with very little circulation (closet, wardrobe).

– PEI 2: They are recommended for spaces with very low or reduced traffic (bathrooms, bedrooms, offices).

– PEI 3: They are used for easy to moderate traffic areas (common areas of the house).

– PEI 4: They are suitable for spaces with medium to heavy traffic, with opening outwards (in any room of the house, especially in the most demanding ones).

– PEI 5: They are used in places with intense traffic (offices, restaurants, waiting rooms, hospitals)

The abrasion resistance

This occurs when the ceramic tiles are subjected to intense and constant traffic. The phenomenon consists of changing the appearance of the ceramic plate, which gradually becomes opaque. The most common abrasive agent is the sand. As a remedy, it is advisable to use wipers before stepping on the glazed surfaces.
