How to carpet a room

Carpeting a room seems a good idea, but you do not know what you have to do to achieve this? It is not so complicated to call for a specialized company, but you need a helping hand. Here is what you have to do.

  1. Clean the surface

The surface on which the carpet will be placed must be clean, smooth and as straight as possible. Depending on the issues presented, choose the right option.

Wash the stains of grease or dirt with detergent until they disappear. If you notice the presence of mold, choose an anti-mold solution from the market and wash the area insistently. If the mold has expanded, then you will have to clean the entire surface to avoid it occurring after you put the carpet.

If the surface is very uneven or is covered with sandstone tiles or hardwood flooring, then it is necessary to cast a layer of screed, preceded by a primer coat. Choose the self-leveling screed to make sure the floor will have the same height everywhere.

The instructions for use are listed on the product package and additional tips can be obtained from the shop specialists.

Smooth the surface and aspirate the dust and dirt very carefully because they do not allow the carpet adhesive to glue with the surface. Avoid using the broom because it will bring about the dirt particles in the air, and then return back to the floor.

  1. Choose a durable adhesive

There are carpets fitted with a layer of adhesive on the back, so they will be applied as a sticker film. Another option is given by the double adhesive foil which combines the carpet with the floor.

For more  safety and a good control over the work, it is best to choose a special adhesive for carpets. It is usually found in the store where you bought the carpet, as well as in DIY or building materials centers. The best known and resistant adhesive of this kind is the prenadez.

Read carefully the indications on the adhesive container and strictly follow the application method as well as the action and drying times.

  1. Cut the carpet details

To do this you need a meter and a cutter. Place the carpet into the room in order to set its final position of fixing according to the cardinal points. Measure the corners and portions which will be cut later: the pipes, radiator legs, threshold, etc. Cut carefully the selected portions and avoid exceeding the original dimensions.

Leave the carpet placed in that room for at least 24 hours. It needs the material to get rid of the folds and to return to a smooth form before it is glued because there is the risk of sticking it in a bad way.

  1. Choose the skirting board

The skirting board  are a very useful accessory both for fixing the carpet and for hiding the imperfections. They can be made of wood, metal, plastic etc. and have two clamping ways: with clamps and screws. If the walls of the room are very straight, then you can catch it with clamps and the look will be impeccable. If the walls are slightly uneven, the screws are the ones that will fix the skirting board piece and will not allow the creation of unpleasant holes.

Depending on the material from which the product is manufactured, you can also choose the color. In general, the color should be similar to the one of the carpet, but you can match it with the walls, curtains or other accessories in the room.

  1. Stick the carpet

Start from the narrower side of the room and apply the adhesive over a 1 m portion. Lay the piece of the related carpet and smooth with the roller to avoid the formation of folds. If you have chosen an adhesive with a prolonged action, then you will have enough time to correct the folds or air cushions under the carpet.

Depending on the thickness and weight of the carpet, you will also appreciate the amount of adhesive that you apply. If the material is very tough and tends to rise, then use a larger amount of adhesive and press the hard places until they are fixed.

In case of the self-adhesive carpet, read carefully the instructions and warnings before its assembling.

  1. Put the skirting board

If you chose screw driving skirting board then you need a bumper with a spiral according to the type of screw. Generally, it is a good idea to use a smaller model to make it less noticeable.

Take a piece of newspaper and place it under the place that you want to make the hole, so the dust from the wall does not spread on the new carpet. Move the newspaper from place to place until you are done.

Take the room out of anonymity. The right carpet for each room.

More wear-resistant than a carpet, the moquette is the ideal solution for designing a heavily-circulated space. Often this is chosen for utility, the visual aspect being only secondarily. If you want the accent to fall on this decoration solution, there is the possibility of choosing a model whose color will take the room out of anonymity.

The complex and well-thought-out range of Diego carpets, with more than 500 models, offer plenty of fitting solutions suitable for any room and any preference.

Warm shades in the bedroom

For many people, the bedroom is a haven of everyday life, a personal space to escape at the end of a tiring or stressful day, relax and unwind. Therefore, a carpet in warm colors, such as red, orange or brick-red-colored, can be the ideal choice for this room because these shades contribute to creating an intimate atmosphere.

Bright colors in the study room

If you have a study room in your house, a room where you spend the time when you work or you have to solve different tasks, we recommend you to choose a carpet in bright colors that will boost your productivity. According to a study about the impact of the colors, the most suitable colors are red, yellow, blue and green.

Light shades in the children’s room

Whether it is a child or a teenager, a carpet model with the lightest shades will be more than appreciated, especially if it is the favorite color of the one who lives in that room.

Dark or pastel colors in the living room

In the living room, where you spend a good deal of time with your family and friends, it is important to choose a carpet that reflects your personality, matching or complementing the furniture and other decorative elements. If you want something more neutral to match anything, you can opt for models in dark shades or, on the contrary, pastels shades.
