What you should know when you want to refurbish your bathroom

For refurbishing a bathroom, the quality of the used products is very important. For a long time the world is facing up with problems about refurbishing of the bathroom. A clear example is that many people buy and assemble faience and sandstone in the bathroom and then they want to buy sanitary objects.

This is very wrong! Why? The installations, in the most cases, are not done correctly. Do I want a washstand of 60cm or 1m?Do I want a suspended toilet or a toilet with a tank on it? Where are the leaks?

Where are assembled the pipes for supplying the bath? So these cases put us in the difficulty of arranging the bathroom on our taste and we are conditioned to buy what suits not what we want. So the main advice is to consult a specialized plumber or a company able to do this. You will save a lot of time and money.

Steps that should be followed when refurbishing  bathrooms:

  1. Products are chosen before pouring the screed and assembling the sandstone and faience. Choose products based on measurements and consult your plumber or those who sell these products. It must provide technical details about products to properly assemble the installation and the one who assembles the sandstone and faience should have the necessary allowances.
  2. It is preferable to buy washstands and WCs made of porcelain, because the porcelain withstands a life, it is not contaminable, it has no bacteria, it has a water absorption of 0.2-0.5% and it is easy to be maintained. Generally, big companies are producing porcelain. If you see on market products with difficult designs and large sizes but cheap, you should to be sure that they are counterfeit or imitations.
  3. Batteries. Buy only brands, nowadays they have accessible prices and all manufacturers have special offers and economic series. If you see these batteries at small prices you can ask some questions to yourself.
  4. A good thing if you have doubts is to ask for a certificate of origin to ensure the guaranty of the product. There are batteries on the market that do not last and they are guaranteed for 5 bar water pressure and the European standards require 10 bars. You risk to wake up flooded in the house.
  5. The bathtubs should be acrylic. Acrylic is guaranteed between 15 and 25 years. It is easy to be maintained, it keeps for a long time its glitter. They can be repaired in case of scratches, it is safer for children and old people. In case of slip, you get a bump or a bruise, but you will not end up with broken bones.

How do I know if a bathtub is acrylic or extruded? The component of extrudate is 90% plastic ABS and 10% acrylic. Extruded bathtubs if you scratch them, they cannot be  repaired because it exfoliates more of the thin layer of acrylic. At some manufacturers, the acryl from ABS exfoliates after 2-3 years of use. And in this case, the only producers of notoriety can provide good quality merchandise and one of the big reasons is: A template for an acrylic bathtub costs from 30 000 to 80 000 euro depending on the complexity and a template for a extruded bathtub cost between 3,000 and 9,000 euro. A large producer produces up to 15,000 bathtubs per day and it ventures to these costs for templates, while the little ones cannot liquidate a template quickly and need to have between 15 and 40 models of bathtubs. Count what requires for  the production of acrylic bathtubs. There are many companies that sell bathtubs, but without knowing from what they are made, they sell as acrylic all of them. Another element is the very low price that can attract your attention.

  1. Shower cabins. Here as in other cases go for the established brands. Cheap shower cabins do not have a long life, their doors can be blocked, they turn into yellow colour, their gaskets break quickly, their glass breaks faster and you can remain with doors in your hand.

Another important point is to put the toilet suspended if it is possible and the only thing on the bathroom floor to be just the bathtub. The furniture should be suspended, the washbasin should be suspended etc. Everything what sits on the floor raise misery and it is harder to clean the bathroom. Use quality silicone which cannot be colonised by mold.
