How do you organize the triangle of work in the kitchen?

A well-thought-out and well-organized kitchen efficiently uses the space both vertically and horizontally, but it does something more: it takes into account the chef’s habits, how he moves between the fridge, cooker and sink, that is how it takes into account the way how the chef performs in the working triangle from the kitchen.

Inside the triangle, the one who prepares the food must make as few steps and as few moves as possible. Although a single step or a single stretch of the arm may seem a little, the sum of all these moves can mean a great deal of work you do in the kitchen when you are preparing the meal. Basically, the more you move through the kitchen, the more tired you will get when the food is ready.

The efficient refurbishment of the kitchen working triangle consists in designating three main areas of work and establishing their position so that the three zones form a triangle in which the chef has everything at its fingertips, without extra efforts and movements.

The three areas are:

– The supply area. It includes the refrigerator and the shelves where the flour, oil, sugar, spices, etc. are stored.

– The cooking area. This category includes the cooker, the microwave, the shelves where you store the pan and the pots.

– The cleaning area. Here we have the sink, the dishwasher, the trash and the detergents.

The three areas can be arranged in several ways.

In the form of a U, one area on each side of the “U”

In the form of the letter L, two areas on the long line of the L and the third area on the short line of the ”L”

Parallel, on one of the two parallel lines you place two areas, and on the other line you place the third area.

Ideally, the sides of the working triangle should not be longer than 3 meters, not shorter than 1.5 meters. The kitchen range or cooker must have 30 centimeters to left and right, and the sink must be bordered on both sides by worktop portions of at least 40 centimeters.

If the price is not a problem, the granite can be an inspired choice, regardless the style used in the kitchen.

The advantages of the granite kitchen worktop:

It is resistant to high temperatures;

It has great durability;

It is a natural material.

The disadvantages of the granite kitchen worktop:

The price is high;

Due to its porous composition, it requires periodic maintenance. It must be waterproof, polished and waxed;

It loses its shine and it gets stained if it is not properly maintained, it can escape due to mechanical shocks;

It is available in a limited color palette.

The acrylic is an easy material with a solid, homogeneous and smooth surface. The acrylic is obtained by mixing a natural mineral compound with acrylic or polyester resins.

The advantages of acrylic kitchen worktop

It is available in a wide variety of colors, including with granulations that mimic the granite or other natural materials;

It can be made to order according to the size and color specifications required by the customer;

The scratches can be removed by grinding;

The surface is not porous, so it does not allow bacteria to develop.

The disadvantages of acrylic kitchen worktop:

 How do you budget the kitchen refurbishing?

Refurbishing of any room is always a challenge, especially when you are face to face with the reality of the budget always inadequate. The correct budgeting of a refurbishment is extremely important because you do not want to wake up in the middle of the project that you do not have enough money because you did not take all aspects into consideration. Given the renovation of a bedroom, a kitchen hides even more challenges. We continue to tell you what you have to take into consideration when you are budgeting the kitchen refurbishing.

  1. Do you give up the flooring tiles and the faience that already exist in the kitchen? If the answer is yes, then you need to budget not only for the purchase of the new ceramic tiles, adhesive, the manual labour for cladding and other building materials. In order to remove the flooring tiles and the faience that already exist the craftsman will charge you additionally, it is not an easy job at all.

2 Even if you think that the sanitary facilities are okay, you better ask an installer to evaluate them. You do not want to break a pipe in the water column shortly after finishing the refurbishment and having to break the wall. If you are still doing a big project, change the sanitary installation, especially if it is 30 years old. And do not forget to budget this expense.

3 The electrical Installation. It is also old and hidden in the walls, just like the sanitary one. If you are living in a block from the 1980s, think that the current electricity consumption is much higher than when the electrical installation was made. There are more electronics and house appliances in an apartment than they were in the 1980s: TV in each room, at least one laptop, at least one air conditioner, plus that in the kitchen you have, besides the refrigerator, a microwave, the hood, the sandwich maker, the toaster.

4 The door and the window. Do you change them? Are you leaving the old ones? Decide their fate before the craftsman starts cladding the flooring tiles and the faience.

5 Do not forget to take into consideration the painting of the ceiling and of the walls.

6 The furniture and the house appliances. Do you keep the existing furniture or are you replacing it with a new one and crafted to your needs? Do you need new ones or the old appliances still do their job?

7 As the refurbishing of the kitchen is a project for several days and the craftsmen will work from the morning until evening, take into account the costs of the food or to establish from the start whether or not will you cover the meals.
