Service Description

How do we obtain a good circulation for the smoke evacuation?

It means primarily well-dimensioned chimneys. If the fireplace, the terra-cotta stove or the thermic central do not have a proper circulation, most likely is the fault of the chimneys. In similar cases, the stove or the thermic central are unusable. Not only because the smoke is annoying for the lodgers, but especially because of its toxicity.

Chimneys. The factors which influence the circulation

If the chimney seems completely inactive, to the origins can be a few reasons:

  1. The wrong design of the smoke evacuation structure

The wrong design of the structure of the combustion exhaust is one of the reasons for that the circulation is not always excellent.

Often it is thought that a chimney should have a proper functioning independent of the internal or external position where it is located. However, although a building may have identical chimneys and characteristics (shape, length, cross section), some may have an optimal circulation, while others do not.

  1. The climatic conditions

The climatic conditions and all the external factors (altitude, atmospheric pressure, wind direction, ambient temperature) condition equally the circulation.

For example, in the cold days, the existent temperature differences between the expelled hot air (the combustion gas) and the outer cold air encourage the circulation. Instead, in the rainy periods, with the lower level of the atmospheric pressure the smoke evacuation mechanism is slowed down.

  1. The materials of which are made

The materials used for the production of the chimneys different from the refractory ceramic or prefab materials to steel and cast iron. But not all are as good. Taking into consideration the diversity of materials, now we can say that a stainless steel chimney is one of the top quality. And who already opted for double insulated chimneys, knows that the choice is one that will ensure a good circulation.

Chimneys. Design characteristics

To achieve a better circulation as well, it should begin from the design characteristics:

  1. The thermal Insulation

The thermal insulation of the chimneys helps to prevent cooling the air during the evacuation process. Thus, it is ensured to eliminate a stream of combustion gases. For the chimneys which are located outside the perimeter of the house, the best ones are the double insulated chimneys.

  1. The source of air

The passage of air from the outside to the inside of the furnace is essential for the combustion process. The air source allows the entry of the oxygen into the furnace, the presence of the oxygen is a necessary condition not only for burning, but also for circulation.

  1. Sizing the cross section

Any chimney cross-section must be proportional to the size of the furnace. A diameter too small could block or slow the lifting of the smoke, thus preventing it from the complete evacuation.

  1. The height of the chimneys

The height must be correlated to the diameter. A small cross-section will be associated to the longer chimney, the length compensates the reduced diameter. But never a chimney will not be less than 4 m, nor will rise above the roof with less than 1 m.

  1. The shape of the chimneys

The common customer, most often, is in a dilemma. Rectangular or circular chimneys? The circular section facilitates the uniform distribution of smoke over the entire inside surface of the chimney.

  1. Other specifications

Regardless of the used materials or the location where they are placed, the chimneys should be constructed as straight as possible without deviations, curves or too high slopes. Even if the chimney is not on the same axis with the stove, the thermic central or the oven, under no circumstances won’t be builtin horizontal portions. The inclination will have not more than 45 degrees from the vertical axis (preferably 30 degrees maximum). This will prevent the air turbulences that might block the evacuation of the smoke in the environment.

In order to improve the circulation, it is recommended to take into account the entire set of condition factors to it, mainly the ratio of the height and the diameter of the tubes that make up the chimneys. It does not exclude any maintenance of drain structures and the quality of fuel in use.
