Why you should have a front metal door

The reinforcement of the doors

The most apartment burglaries are done through the front door, so the first step is to reinforce this first access point. Installing a lock with multiple bolts is not enough. You must ensure that the door can neither be forced nor removed from the hinges. The most common solution today is the blindage.

Anti-forcing angles

Installed around the whole perimeter of the door, they are blades of iron in the shape of “L”, which prevents the insertion between the frame and the tablets of an instrument which has the function of a lever. They are assembled on the outside of the door, but they are fixed on the inner side. After you have made the necessary holes, fix the angles and fix them with screws to the other side of the door.

Systems against removal from the hinges

After you have ensured that the woodwork is fixed in the masonry, you can reinforce the hinge with a system against removal from the hinges. The armoring

The operation is still more expensive than the simply installation of reinforcing accessories.

Door bolts and safety keys

There are many models of door bolts, from the simplest ones to the most complicated ones. They are divided in two categories: applied door bolts, which go to the exterior, respectively the enclosure bolts in the thickness of the door. The last ones are not recommended for the entrance doors because they can weaken the resistance. The simplest bolts have a single latch, but in those called “safety” are frequently used and they have 3,5 or 7 locking points. A lock with 3 points has a central mechanism which operates a lateral bolt and through of rods, one bolt up and one down. In general, it is completed with a safety key; some of them are about impossible to duplicate.

The protection of windows

When the windows are not protected by shutters, the lattice work can be a good discouraging element, with condition to be robust and solid assembled in coping. If its aesthetic seems questionable, another solution is to use the burglar windows. Very thick, made of several layers, based on composite materials, they can withstand the blows of the ax or sledgehammer. Their effectiveness is linked to the frame which must have very robust aluminum woodwork and it should be equipped against of removal from the hinges. On the other hand it would be good to give up on transparent plastic films called “security”, which are applied to existing windows – they facilitate the work of thieves and allow them a quiet burglary!
