7 Rules of decorating a white living room
It was noted that in the recent years, many people give up to paint the walls in white, preferring to give a shade to the walls. White is considered obsolete and I do not understand why, since this colour was and it will always remain the synonymous with elegance and refinement. Therefore I decided to bring into discussion some rules of decorating a white living room, rules that you can apply in other decorations of rooms of the house.
- Outline the general picture of your living room
The moment that the idea of decorating the living room in white germinates, it is recommended to try to imagine how your living room will look at the end of the decorating works. For this you must include into decor that you will compose using the imagination, the light that the walls will emit, the white furniture and accessories. You can actually start renovating and redecorating the living room just after you feel the final result will be really on your liking.
- The furniture of the living room
Usually, a space decorated in white, not just the finishing, but the furniture is white. But as rules are made to be broken, in this case you can make two exceptions. The first would be the sofa and the second – the library. In a white living room you can bring either a library or a sofa in a contrast colour, without putting your problem as it puts a negative mark on the immaculate scenery you want to create.
The condition is to choose only one of them in a coloured version and not use other contrast stains form of furniture in context. You can, at the most, to match the couchor the library with a few accessories and colourful decorations: decorative cushions, pictures, a vase, a black and white motif etc.
Given the fears that many people have to buy a sofa or a set of white chairs, I think this rule would carry through many of those who hesitate to arrange the living room in white.
- White living room sofa
Being perhaps the most important piece of furniture that a living room has, the sofa should be placed in the spotlight, especially when both it and many other elements of the room are white. A white sofa can be easily lost amid the pristine white walls of a living room. Therefore you should try to place it closer to the center of the room. In this way you will help it become more visible, restoring its leading role in the decor of your living room.
However, in order not to wake up in a situation where you regret buying a white sofa, I recommend you choose amodel with a hood, that will ease your work.
- The coffee table
When you think of the sofa in the living room, probably also comes to mind a coffee table and I think that happens to us all. Starting from the premise that white room must be airy and bright you should choose a model that is practical, yet unobtrusive. Avoid cumbersome models that waste space, keep them for kitchen or dining place. Think that you use the dining room table just to keep your sight remotes, your favourite magazine or to serve coffee to visiting guests. Otherwise it would be called the dining breakfast, lunch and dinner table.
- The carpet in a white living room
The carpet is also an important element in the decor of any living room and other rooms, by the way, and so its choice must be done carefully, taking into account several factors. The decorating style of your living room is one of them. This will help determine the shape, pattern and texture of the carpet.
Another factor is the traffic or the frequency of use of the living room. In other words, If you do not have small children, if you know that you do not use the living room so frequent and also that you and your partner do not wear shoes in the house, you can choose a white carpet. If the answer to the three “if” from above is no, forget about the white and stat looking for a colour which is easier to maintain. Because yes, a colourful carpet (preferably unite, which means in one colour) can be integrated easily into a living room decorated in white and even helps also to put the couch in value.
The third factor can be floor or rather its colour. Even if you tend toward white décor it can happen that the floor of your living room to be in a darker shade when you can count on impact and contrast obtained from the association of the floor with a white carpet. The same is true in the opposite situation, when a red carpet, for example, will emphasize a white floor.
- Lighting sources
The idea of a white living often starts from the desire of light, more light, as much light as possible. However the room can pamper in the sun during the day, enjoying plenty of natural, light that enters through the windows, during the night things change and the room may lose its brightness. This will not happen if you give the deserved importance to the artificial light sources. One pendant is insufficient, especially in a big living room. So be sure to supplement the amount of light in the hours after dark using local lighting: lamps, brackets, decorative lamps or spotlights. All this will help keep them bright aura of the living room at night.
- The windows of a furnished living room decorated in white
If you want a white living room where you will load with the energy transmitted by the natural light, avoid heavy fabrics opaque curtains. To complete the design that you want to obtain, the most suitable are the thin curtains of organza, cotton or even linen(depending on the style chosen for the arrangement), with ethereal look and which allow and even facilitate the penetration of the light into the chamber.
