Thermo-Insulating windows

Choose windows that do not depend on the weather from outside, which can create you an effective protective barrier. You have to choose thermo-insulating windows, glass doors and glass walls with bigger surfaces and with insulation degree compatible with passive house standards.

The comfort of a modern house and a good energy balance in the “operation” of the house, they are obtained through a perfect insulation. Taking into account that 40% of the house heat heat loss is done through windows and doors, assemblage of thermo-insulating windows and glass units with high degree of insulation is very important.

Besides the role of an effective thermal barrier, current-generation windows protect us from the noise of city traffic and they have a higher quality of anti-breachcloseure, sunlight filtering, natural ventilation, etc.

When you choose the thermo-insulating windows it must be a good correlation between the quality of the joinery (profiles) and the one of the windows. One of the most important indicators that render the quality of the insulation is the heat transfer coefficient, which is measured in W / mpK. A minimal value of this, for the whole window / the door is synonymous with a great insulation capacity.

Insulated windows models have a relatively simple structure, consisting of layers of glass perimeter framed by profiles of joinery (PVC, aluminum or wood) with multiple internal pockets perfectly sealed, usually called rooms. Catching on the wing and the way of opening are assured by a hardware system assembled on the profiles of on sliding bearings profiles (in case of doors). PVC profiles are the most frequent, often considered a very economical option.

They are durable, robust (most often are reinforced with galvanized steel profiles) and easy to maintain. They have a high thermal conductivity this is why the carbon fibre is inserted inside the profile with the role to eliminate the thermal bridges.

The aluminum profiles are loose, very robust (no need of reinforcement), they have superior resistance to degradation and require no special maintenance. The wood ones are the most aesthetic and close like design to classic windows, but they are more exposed to degradation from UV radiation and rain. It is recommended to choose exotic wood models or laminated wood models (with blades from exotic wood inserted).

The glass surfaces consist of two or three sheets of glass separated by layers of insulating gas (argon, krypton). Nowadays, most models of thermo-insulating windows / doors are equipped with insulating glass sheets covered with deposits LOW E (low emissivity) and a layer of silver powder or semiconductor metal salts, which substantially limits the heat loss.

The most effective structures are the ones with three sheets of glass, which is the common formula for passive houses or with high efficient energy. Standard thickness of the glass sheets is 4 mm, but for an additional insulation is recommended the models with 6 mm thick.

You have windows with different reactions to sunlight, over the four seasons –in summer they reject partial the sunlight, in winter they capture it better. They are especially well suited for glass roofs, terraces with extended walls of glass, curtain walls, etc. When you choose do not neglect the anti-breach closing qualities of the glass!

Ventilation of the air is vital, for completing the insulating and airtight windows.

The new models of thermo-insulating windows offer more efficient solutions to increase the degree of insulation (especially important for passive houses), to suit the inside environment as good as possible, and also for “open” structures with large glass walls. Especially for the latter ones, “more glass, less frame visible” seems to be the motto.

For the sliding doors and for the curtain walls you should seek anti-rubbing guiding and as discrete (embedded in the floor), with electric button action (remote). Because the thermo-insulating windows are sealed, a special attention is paid to adequate ventilation.

Besides the vents from the structure of the profiles, accessories are available that can be installed independently (with valves that close / open automatically, depending on the wind pressure). To avoid overheating and too strong light, some thermo-insulating windowsare provided with narrow window-blinds, placed between sheets of glass, which can be easily handled from the outside.
